How to play

The rules of the slip

Short version: get them to say the word. Don't be a creep about it.

The four house rules

1.

You can't say the word yourself

No tricking them by saying it first and waiting for them to repeat it. The word has to come out of their mouth, unprompted by you saying it.

2.

No reading from a screen

You can't show them the word in writing. No "what does this say?" plays. They have to say it from their head, not from their eyes.

3.

Accomplices allowed — but you have to be there

You can have a friend help bait the word. But you have to be present (in person, on the call, in the chat) when they slip. No sending someone else to bait alone and reporting it back.

4.

Real conversation only

Voice or text both count. Group chats count. Phone calls count. Reading aloud from a book or script doesn't count — that's reciting, not speaking. And asking them to literally say the word doesn't count.

Things you absolutely can do

  • Steer conversation toward topics where the word naturally fits.
  • Ask leading questions about their day, weekend, taste in food, etc.
  • Tell stories that hint at the word.
  • Bring up a shared memory or inside joke.
  • Reference TV shows, music, or books where the word features.
  • Use synonyms and related ideas to evoke it.
  • Show them a picture or video (just don't show the word in writing).

When in doubt, target's call

Slip Assassin is honor system. When you tap GOT 'EM, your target gets a confirm/dispute prompt. They confirm if you got them fair and square. If they think you broke a rule (or just want to fight it), they hit Dispute and the group weighs in.

Don't be the person who confirms a slip you know was rigged, and don't be the person who disputes one you know was clean. The whole game runs on trust.

Anti-stalling

Two systems work together so you're never stuck:

  • Auto-expire (optional): if you sit on a target too long, the group's timer rotates you to a fresh target automatically. No point penalty — people sleep, life happens.
  • Skip cooldown (always on): if you don't know the word or the target's impossible, hit Skip. You can skip again after the cooldown finishes (e.g. once every 24h).

In elimination mode, when only 3 active players remain, all targets are revealed publicly — no more hiding.
